You could get brain training for the DS, thats supposed to help. Also Derren Brown has released a series of books and some films on the subject of training your mind to store information better. One such book is called Tricks of the mind - where he teaches you to store your thoughts and memories in such a way as to be so easilly retrievable that they cant be forgotton. In his second series of Trick or Treat (first episode entitled Quiz) He teaches you how to develop a photograpic memory by scanning books.

Ive worked in the catering and hospitallity trade for some time and as far as i understand it all persons handling food and beverages should hold a current Basic food hygene certificate, however some leeway is given to "new staters" if they havent taken the course but are signed on to it and are working with someone who holds one.

I would imagine that if the promotion is for one day only, your husband should be ok if he is with someone who has the certificate.

There are many people out there who work with food that dont have the qualification and are still working and questions dont get asked and if they do its the employer who is liable not the employee. However, in the uk, you should have the certificate before serving, preparing or distributing food to a customer.

AMMENDMENT
http://www.cip.ukcentre.com/food1x.htm
This site is the full General food hygiene regulations 1995
The regulation say that you must adhere to the regulations and interestingly that although a certificate is prefered it is not mandatory.
It takes you through the basics of food hygiene and the lagal requirements of HACCAP.
But basically your husband can rest easily, he shouldnt have to take the course as long as he conplies and remembers to wash his hands.
(sorry about the first bit, that was always what i believed to be the case)

No matter what anyone else says or tells you. "you" are the most important!

for years i worked as a greeter in a night club so ive seen some really crazy things but one particular night shocked me.
One of the doormen escorted a very drunk girl to me and she asked me if i had a bin. so of course i said id show her where to find one. As i reached for the bin she placed a small pink thing on the counter infront of me and imagine my face when i realised there was a toe nail on it! What she then told me made me feel ill, she'd taken her shoes off to dance and dropped her drink, stood on the broken glass and cut her toe so badly she couldnt get her shoe back on so she had gone to the ladies and "removed the toe" so she could stay out and drink with her friends
obviously she was sent to the hospital with the toe in ice, but seriously how drunk does one person want to be?

i do sometimes wonder what she thought when she sobered up

Have you tried a slimming club?
I myself am a weight watchers member and i know plenty of women who attend who had the same issues and have managed to resolve them. Its a structured diet plan so you always know that what you eat should allow you to have a good weight loss.
Its also a good place to socialise and get good advice and tips from exsisting members and they have no problem with the baby coming along too.
If thats not up your street a good idea is to remove sugary drinks from your diet and cut right back on alcoholic drinks (not sure if you still breast feed at 6 months...im not a mother, so you might not be drinking alcohol anyway) Cut back on foods with a high amount of saturated fat look for ones with less than 2% saturated fat and under.

A good idea for anyone going to the gym is to take your measurements weekly around your waist, tummy, back and thighs because you might be losing inches and not weight. If your building muscle at the gym remember that it weighs more than fat. After all its mass loss that really counts.
Good luck. x
