The Virginia stool shower became popular in the 1830s. The bather worked a lever on one side to pump water up through a hose while simultaneously working another lever or pedal to move an attached scrub brush up and down his or her back.
Built in shower/bath only became popular after the first world war, in 1920 the first built in bath, flush to the wall rather than the free standing claw foot tub made showering more practical.

It was changed when Sunday became the first day of the week, making Wednesday the fourth day, Hence ´midweek´. Now I have written that it doesn´t look right, but anyway, that is apparantly the reason for the change.

I can´t see the difference between choosing between two English people on the basis of accent. Someone who speaks English as a second language may very well speak more clearly and correctly than a native English speaker. It wouldn´t surprise me to learn that some discrimination act will cover this, but in certain jobs the way the employee speaks is very important so someone who is less easy to understand is simply not as well qualified, English or not.
I still shudder at one girl we had on trial who answered the phone - ´allo, den´-íst´ the one who said ´good morning, dental surgery´got the job.

I think it is. So many times disasters have been excused by the plaintive cry quoted by Ms Heels. Often they end up with just the same results as bad intentions. ´She meant well´is a very damning phrase.
Then what would be the solution ? Every act is preceeded by an intention, some good and some bad. It seems an impasse ..... all this waffle could have been prevented by a one word answer.
But I meant well!

Women were always advised to wait for six weeks after a birth before having sex. Why not give the clinic where you got the jab a ring just to be on the safe side .
