is it possible for someone to wipe out the contents of your memory card/stick on your phone via bluetooth?
the phone in question is my aunt's sony ericsson k610i, and i really hope i wasn't to blame! we linked via bluetooth and i got access to her phone, looked around her files and hoicked two music tones (scissor sisters and ram jam). i went into the memory stick folder, but only because i was kinda lost! didn't touch anything in there. anyway, now she says that the memory stick and phone settings have disappeared, and i was wondering how that could have happened - if i could have done it inadvertently, or if it was a bluetooth virus (i've heard that they exist), or something else? i'll be looking for a troubleshooter, any help gratefully accepted!

"Yes it is possible, however, it looks like there's a new virus on the loose infecting mobile phones.
The new virus called Cabir (where the hell do they come up with these names?) has supposedly been developed by a group that wants us all to know they can crack any technology out there. Gee thanks guys and I was convinced all my technology was completely safe and hack free before you came along...
Cabir infects the Symbian operating system that is used in several makes of mobiles, notably the Nokia brand, but also the Sony/Ericsons and propagates through bluetooth wireless technology that is in several new mobile phones.
Ah Bluetooth - the convenience of wireless, just open up the doors and windows and invite everyone in - good guys, burglars... you name it. That's pretty much what Bluetooth does for you. Think of bluetooth this way - it would be so very easy to move furniture into and out of your house if there were no doors in the way. You know, causing space restrictions, not staying open when you have something heavy you're hauling into or out of the house. OTOH - once you have the furniture and valuables in place - if you have no doors, what's to keep the bad guys out?
Sadly ease of use and convenience come at a great price in the world of technology" 3 years ago / reply
