what evidence is there to show that the earth is not flat
Earth flat or round
asked in Planets

| gentoo answers: Of course the world is flat. It is supported on the back of four elephants who themselves stand on the back of a giant turtle . . .
On the other hand, you could emulate Phileas Fogg and set out heading west and just keep going - until you arrive back where you started. 3 years ago / reply

| vultan answers: The horizon. If the earth was flat we'd be able to see all the way across it. Plus they took some photos of it from space. Definitely round. 3 years ago / reply

| Messerwisser answers: Every evidence that the world is flat is falsified. The satellites that are said to circulate around us are just imagination. The satellite photos are fabricated in computers. We in The Flat Earth Society pity everyone who does not have the right belief ;-)

| mathpath answers: 1. All heavenly bodies are round, there is therefore a good chance that the earth is round.
2. The shadow that the earth cast on the moon last Saturday was definitely round, if you saw it for yourself.
3. The visible distance of the horizon proves that the earth is round, in fact, from which the diameter of the earth can be calculated.
Distance of horizon in kilometres
=sqrt((height of observator in cm)/6.752)

4. This one will work for Londoners as well as Parisiens:
If you measure the angle of the sun on a perfectly flat earch, the angle should be the same in London and in Paris... at the same time.
The fact that London and Paris would give different angles at the same moment is the proof that the earth is not flat. In fact, this was one of the earlier ways to calculate the radius of the earth, before the satellite photos and all these technologically advanced instruments. 3 years ago / reply
