vegetarian sausages etc
Why is so much effort put into making some vegetarian foods look like their meat equivalant? I tested a spare vegetarian sausage and had I not known it was vegetarian I would have said it was pork.
Surely the whole idea is a vegetarian does not want to eat meat so why produce food that looks and tastes like meat?

My question entirely, Curly! I am a pescatarian crustacearean vegetable-eater and I hate having put stuff in front of me by well-meaners which - to all intents and purposes - looks, tastes and smeels like meat. Now, reason this woman here does NOT eat meat is because I can not abide the taste, look, texture and smell of it!
Weirdest of all: The only times I ever am subjected to that sort of fake-meat, yet meaty-tasting stuff is when I visit vegetarians! My meat-eating friends all just plonk veges in front of me (and do I love you for that? - yes, I do - with all my heart).

In direct contrast to Gina's answer, there are a lot of vegetarians who actually miss meat. They shouldn't be penalised for having the courage of their convictions.

It's for this reason, I welcome the pseudo meat products. It helps people to live by a moral code, even if I don't share it... I can still respect it. :-)

If you eat a normal human diet, you won't have this problem. If you insist on being wierd, don't be surprised if people don't know how to react
