Well, lets see, i get to e-mail my friend in Australia, we 'chat' all the time, something we wouldn't be able to do without the net, so i would have to say it has made it better.

Its made the world smaller and i have touched peoples lives that i wouldnt of normally met walking down the high street so i guess it has made life better, but there are people out there out to abuse the system and make it a bad experiance but like most things you have to look past the bad people and concentrate on the good .

On the whole, I would say that my PC has improved my life enormously. Without it, I would have never met my wife.

Widespread use. Personal lives.
Yes in general it has improved people's personal lives.
Computers in general and the internet in particular are relatively new. When something is new people have a tendency to resist it. If it's new and it has wide-ranging effects on many people's lives there will be more resistance.
The main problem at the moment is a tendency by many people to overanalyse everything that is new : it's a new form of resistance to change. Imagine somebody saying "Let's stop the introduction of this new technology by making people think about it. Let's have polls and other time-wasting democratic functions to at least slow it's introduction. If we slow it down enough people will lose interest in it". They are still trying to do that with the internet. They want to blame all the world's problems on computers or internet. Obesity, paedophilia, new cults et c. all because of the internet? I think not.

When they are working better because when my pc was down I was completely cut off from the world and this is my way of communicating with other people and having conversations.
Sounds sad doesnt it but since the event last year it is hard for me to go out and interact with other people.
I dont like the telephone and rarely answer it..so this is really my one means of communication...
so for me it is better
Additionally computers have helped save lives by being used fight crime re criminal databases, use in hospitals etc so i think it is better for everyone even if it has made us more isolationist but that has been the case since before pcs were available.
