roasted camembert - is it safe to do this when the container is cardboard?
i know a recipe for roasted camembert that calls for it to be put in the oven in its own box. half the boxes out there are cardboard - is it safe enough to complete this recipe that way, or should i go buy the expensive stuff that actually comes in a wooden box?

recipes welcome, but please advise on box situation first!

I have put cardboard boxes of cheese in the oven, they have come out a bit singed but ok, i take it out of the box and put some silver foil instead, then i put the whole lot back in the box and peel back the foil (do not try to remove the cheese from the silver foil if you wish to keep your fingers!)

No don't put the box in or you will have to peel burnt boxes and cheese off of your cooker after the fire brigade has extinguished it.

The camemberts at Lidls are only 87p and come in the wooden container so they are not expensive at all. Dip crusty bread in the melted cheese and it is delicious.

For this cheese without the tube I would roll in a little beaten egg and then some season breadcrumbs and deep fry until golden brown. Serve with some cranberry or redcurrent jelly.

I don't think you should cook it in the cardboard container, not from any possible health hazard, but because this way of serving camembert in it's box is purely for the nice rustic look of it when you serve it.
Don't forget to remove it from it's inner paper container before replacing it in it's box!
It wouldn't look very impressive in a cardboard container so you could buy the expensive one first and cook it in it's box, then use this same box to cook future cheeses in.

I really don't think it's important tastewise that it's cooked in the box as there are loads of recipes for baked camembert that tell you to put it into an oven proof dish
