We were six. The washing machine was always on at least three times a day. If you all sit in a chair all day doing nothing, then yes it is excessive...If, on the other hand, you are all leading normal active lives, getting messy and enjoying it... then no. Besides... I would be more worried about having to do all that ironing hehe.

There are 5 people in our household but I only do one load per day.

I don't do everything on the day it's put out for the wash - one day I do all the jeans, one day all the light coloured tops and skirts etc, over three days I do the bedding and towels and so on.

I think perhaps 28 washes per week is rather a lot and you would cut the costs of electricity and washing powder etc if you didn't try to clear all the washing each day. It would be better for the environment too.

i would say that is alot personnaly
there is 8 of us now and we only do 2 washes a day (well the wife does i just have to stand there and iron the lot)

The machine in my home is used once a day at least and often twice.

I would not call your use excessive, unless you always use the small load setting

I'd say between my brother, my son and I we do about 5-6 loads per week. We only wear our clothes once, but even a change every day for each of us only comes to that amount. I NEVER iron anything. My least favourite part about laundry is putting the clean clothes away. Although if I ironed, that would be the part I dreaded most.
