Is there a logical way of guessing a person's first name? Based on personality or looks?
asked in names

| Bubs86 answers: I guess you could see someone who looks fairly plain and boring and guess their name is something boring like John or Peter. Or you could see someone who looks a bit modern and crazy and guess their name is Sky or Storm. But that would be very stereotypical. I would suggest if you want to know someones name just ask, it is more reliable than guessing! 3 years ago / reply

| duffield1 answers: I often look at people and instantly know their name. Some call it a talent. I prefer to think of it as reading their name badge, which most people forget they are wearing.
Seriously, people do not choose their names and do not change their personality to fit their names. You might think that some people suit their names, and they probably do, but you don't think that about the vast majority of people - you just particularly notice those that really do, and those that really don't (e.g. a hoodie called Tarquin). 3 years ago / reply

| CGA answers: There is a certain amount of logic that can be applied. Names go through periods of fashion and can also have regional/social bias. From that you could make some judgements, based on the persons age and background, the sort of names that may have been popular at the time.
The only other issue is if people are influenced by their name. I don't have one of the more common names and I have always been a rebel (one of the awkward squad). Maybe having a name they separated me from the crowd made me that way? 3 years ago / reply
