What's better for clothes (fluff, durability) + energy efficiency : 'rotary dryer' or out on the line ?
Do not forget ironing.

Towels always get tumble dried - they are fluffier without doubt, and there are fewer opportunities for bacteria to settle - any that do are killed off by the heat.
There was a tv show recently that carried out tests on tea towels. They measured the energy required to wash and dry, and the levels of bacteria after the fact. A cool wash (at 40) followed by tumble drying was the cheapest in terms of energy and the best bacteria killer. The only other way to do it was to wash at 90, but that was then made pointless by line drying as it allowed all sorts to settle on the drying towel...
For big things like sheets and tablecloths I like line drying because a good windy day whips all the creases out meaning hardly any ironing required (I usually don't bother at all). I find tops and trousers also need less ironing when line dried.
So I guess if you're worried about bacteria use a tumble drier, otherwise line dry every time. 3 years ago / reply

| PARRY22 answers: Weather permitting I like my washing dried on the line after a medium spin dry to get rid of a good bit of the moisture.
I always fold my washing into a laundry basket from the machine before taking it out to the line.
This reduces creasing and after a good blow much easier to iron.
I love the smell of clean washng after a blow on the line. This also makes it a lot nicer to iron.
I am not very fond of ironing so every inducement to do it helps. 3 years ago / reply
