Attmpting to have a strategy that results in your site being linked to from a variety of other sites. This usually results in lots of spam on sites such as this one, which then gets deleted by moderators like me, and the search engines never notice them.

A better strategy is one that builds **relevant** links, which then remain in place and will get noticed by the search engines. Unfortunately, it takes a bit more work.
