A standard VGA male-male VGA connector. It has 9 pins - one row of 5, one of 4 - and is available in any good electronics store (e.g. Maplins)

if your tv has a standard 'PC' 'VGA' connection, like the one shown above, this is a standard monitor type connector and you just need a cable for an external monitor for your lap top. you can get this at any computer shop - example - http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/397733/BELKIN-CC4003AES06

some tvs have a HD connector for the PC in and require a graphics card with a HDMI output. if you have this type of connector, you will not likely have the correct output on a laptop.

You'll also need a connector for the audio if you intend to use it to watch a dvd or anything else that needs proper sound rather than what usually comes out of a laptop.
